Journalist Alberto Amaro has received several threats, most recently in September 2026, against his life and that of his family. Since 2019, he has been attacked, threatened, and arrested by police officers and intimidated by members of organized crime groups. Although he is under protection from the Mexican state, the measures provided are inadequate and even those covering his family could be lifted at any moment. Several journalists have been attacked or killed while under state protection, demonstrating the mechanism’s intervention is insufficient, poorly implemented, or not properly monitored.
We call on the authorities to guarantee Alberto Amaro’s safety through appropriate, effective measures.
