CHINA: ARTIST GIVEN MAXIMUM SENTENCE FOR ART
Only 143 days left to join us and support this case!

Chinese artist Gao Zhen was sentenced to prison in August 2026 solely due to his art. Convicted in March 2026 of “slandering China’s heroes and martyrs”, his three-year sentence is the maximum term. His apparent poor health following the trial raises concerns about conditions of detention. Furthermore, his wife and son remain under a de facto exit ban despite not being accused of any crime.

The Chinese authorities must overturn his conviction, release him immediately and unconditionally, and end all restrictions imposed on his family.
