Everyone selected for one of the roles in this application will be expected to attend an in-person training in the San Francisco Bay Area. All expenses are covered by AIUSA. If you are under age 18 at the time of the training, you will need permission from your parent or legal guardian to attend, and we encourage you to speak with them now about your availability for the dates below. If you are not available to attend in person, please explain; while this is a required component of the role, limited exceptions will be considered. Note: This training is held in person and all expenses are covered by AIUSA. However, we will assess safety and public health measures as it gets closer, and will hold it virtually if necessary. YoCo members come from all corners of the U.S., and may even be abroad; the work is carried out virtually throughout the year, using digital platforms and conference calls. Without the ability to work in person, effective communication is a critical piece of the group’s ability to be successful. YoCo is a 15-20 hour / month time commitment, with the following approximate breakdown: 5-8 hours: bi-weekly YoCo calls, monthly one-on-one calls with another YoCo member, and daily communication on Slack; 10-12 hours: project / team work, internal YoCo roles, and participating in organizational consultations as opportunities arise. Rather than finding 15-20 hours in the month to do YoCo work around your other involvements, the commitment requires YoCo to be a priority for all members. A flexible schedule (particularly in the evenings) and strong time-management skills are important. YoCo members generally communicate via Slack on a daily or nearly-daily basis. Is this something you can commit to? How does this time commitment fit into your 2023-2024 schedule? What else are you involved in that takes up time on a weekly or monthly basis, and is there anything you anticipate could get in the way of this commitment? Youth Strategy

The Youth Collective is responsible for implementing the 2022-2025 AIUSA Youth Strategy. Please brainstorm one project idea for each of the four goals in the strategy. We’re looking for your ideas on how to implement the strategy. What’s something we could do to bring new people into our work, or retain current activists at a higher level? What’s a project that could increase youth leadership in our core campaigns? What steps could we take to increase youth engagement in internal decision-making at AIUSA? How can we address youth activist well-being? Describe your ideas below in one sentence per goal.(Required)

Write a short project plan for the idea you just expanded on. A project plan is the roadmap for turning an idea into reality. When writing your plan, consider what you are trying to achieve with your project - can you get more specific? For example, if the Social Media team is working to “increase engagement with AIUSA student groups on three social media platforms”; this is more specific than “building youth social media accounts”. Who are the key stakeholders for your project? Who might oppose the project? What external factors could influence your project (i.e. risks or opportunities)? (300-350 words)(Required)
