Jiand Baloch, activist and chairperson of the Baloch Students Organization, was forcibly disappeared from his home on July 24, 2026. His family members were threatened and assaulted during the raid at his house. His whereabouts remain unknown. This is the third time Jiand has been forcibly disappeared, as part of a pattern targeting him for his peaceful activism.

The Pakistani authorities must act promptly to provide information about Jiand Baloch’s fate and whereabouts and ensure his immediate and safe release.

Dear Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti,

I am concerned about the reported enforced disappearance of Jiand Baloch, student leader and chairperson of the Baloch Students Organization (BSO). According to his family, individuals identifying themselves as law enforcement officials entered their home on July 24, 2026, physically assaulted family members, searched the premises and took Jiand Baloch away without providing any legal basis for his detention. No information about his whereabouts has since been provided.

I note with concern that this is the third time Jiand Baloch has been subjected to enforced disappearance. As a peaceful student activist who has campaigned on issues affecting students and families of the forcibly disappeared, he is facing repeated reprisals simply for exercising his human rights. The authorities have an obligation to ensure that no one is arbitrarily deprived of their liberty and that all detainees are afforded the protections guaranteed under Pakistan’s Constitution and international human rights law.

Therefore, I urge you to immediately disclose Jiand Baloch’s fate and whereabouts. I also urge you to ensure that he is protected from torture and other ill-treatment and release him immediately, unless there is sufficient credible evidence to charge him with a recognizable criminal offense. Finally, I call on you to investigate his enforced disappearance and hold those suspected to be responsible to account in fair proceedings.
