INDONESIA: ACTIVISTS FACE CRIMINAL CHARGES FOR PEACEFUL PROTESTS

Eight activists – Delpedro Marhaen Rismansyah, Muzaffar Salim, Khariq Anhar, Syahdan Husein, Wawan Hermawan, Saiful Amin, Shelfin Bima Prakosa, and Muhammad ‘Paul’ Fakhrurrozi – have been arbitrarily arrested and charged with criminal offenses solely for protesting or using social media in support of recent protests. Their cases are part of a broader violent crackdown by the Indonesian Police on nationwide demonstrations that began on August 25, 2025. 

UPDATE: On October 24, 2025, Muhammad ‘Paul’ Fakhrurrozi was released on bail from the custody of the East Java Police. He has since returned to his house and we therefore ask you to please stop calling for his release from prison. His status remains a suspect, awaiting the conclusion of police’s investigation into his case.
