Letter writing on behalf of prisoners of conscience is a mainstay of Amnesty International’s grassroots activity. Every year, to mark Human Rights Day (December 10), Amnesty activists all over the world write letters on a small number of urgent cases. Write For Rights is Amnesty International’s largest annual human rights campaign.
Group 73 of Amnesty in Ithaca, NY celebrates Human Rights Day each year and warmly welcomes everyone to its celebration and letter-writing event.
When: Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020 from 4-7 pm (drop in and out at any time)
Where: Virtually, over Zoom. Write to us for the link!
Then get out pens and paper. We plan a convivial afternoon/evening with letters to write and sign, readings, and a bit of music. Some guests will speak about their own experience with human rights issues. When we work together this way, we concentrate our energy for impact on the lives of human rights defenders. We can mail you information sheets for our featured cases, writing materials, ready-made letters to sign, envelopes and postage.
Please join us on December 12th to write and sign letters on behalf of prisoners of conscience and human rights defenders in Burundi, Colombia, the U.S., Pakistan, Turkey and more.
We will be joined by members of Ithaca City of Asylum, Detroit City of Asylum, and Schoolcraft College Amnesty.
For more information, or if you are interested in joining our upcoming actions or meetings (7:30 pm the third Tuesday of the month), please contact Wayles Browne, Treasurer, Amnesty International Group 73 at [email protected]
