World Refugee Day honors and commemorates refugees all around the world and helps to bring global attention to individuals and families who have fled their homes from war, conflict or persecution. It aims to celebrate the courage, resilience, and perseverance of millions of refugees all around the world, while also shedding a light on a need for improved policies.

In honor of World Refugee Day, AmnestyLA is thrilled to share with you Widad Shafakoj’s The Last Passenger. This short documentary explores the Syrian refugee crisis from the Zaatari refugee camp – the world’s largest camp and permanent settlement for Syrian refugees located in the north of Jordan.

Following the short film, there will be a live panel discussion with director and filmmaker Widad Shafakoj, Jose Serrano from World Relief Southern CA, and the International Rescue Committee. AmnestyLA’s original co-founding member, Mhairi Morrison, will return to moderate the conversation.

We hope that you can join us on World Refugee Day, June 20, 2021 at Noon (Pacific Time)!
