Vigil for BK16 at Indian Consulate on Friday, 12/10

Amnesty’s Local Group 26 in New York has taken on the case of the BK16 and would like to invite anyone in the NYC area to participate in a Vigil in front of the Indian consulate on Human Rights Day, December 10th from 12pm to 2pm.

In order to make this event a success, we are looking for at least 10 people to commit to show up on Friday Dec 10 – will you be one of them?

The Need: AI Members, concerned members of the Indian Diaspora, and other peaceful human rights advocates.
The Cause: The unjust and unconstitutional imprisonment/house arrest without trial of 16 human rights defenders by the Indian National Government, a Prisoners of Conscience case officially cited by Amnesty International (one prisoner, an elderly Catholic Priest and Rights Advocate, has already died while under Government care).
The Mission: To obtain the immediate and unconditional release of these 15 human rights advocates. A copy of a letter Group 26 members have sent to Indian Government officials demanding action is also attached.
The Date: Friday, December 10th – International Human rights Day.
The Place: Indian Consulate, 3 East 64th Street, NYC
The Time: 12:00 – 2:00 pm EST

Some hand-made signs may be available. Demonstrators are encouraged to make their own relevant and peace-focused signs and bring them to the event.
