Founded in 1998 by Jasmina Bojic, Stanford educator and film critic, UNAFF is an international documentary film festival originally established at Stanford University and Palo Alto to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Since then, UNAFF has grown and earned the respect of audiences and filmmakers alike for its fearless independence and integrity. In addition to providing an early outlet for films, UNAFF prides itself on creating a community forum for discovery and dialogue about different cultures, issues, and solutions. Over the years, UNAFF has screened some of the most awarded and influential documentaries, including 8 that went on to win Academy Awards and 34 that were nominated.

UNAFF partners with community organizations to present documentaries on domestic and international issues that include, but are not limited to, racism, environmentalism, sustainability, climate change, health care, education for all, child welfare, refugee resettlement, gender equality, LGBTQ+ issues, war, and peace. This year’s theme, SOLUTIONS, continues our 26 years long celebration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and emphasizes our readiness to care about other people’s emotional experiences.
