On September 21st 2011, the state of Georgia executed Troy Davis, despite a strong innocence case and a massive global campaign fighting for his life. In the decade since Troy’s execution, the movement against the death penalty and state violence that Troy and his family helped build has only grown. Troy’s family members and countless supporters continue to do this work in his name, as he asked them to.
Please join AIUSA, our partner organizations, and the Davis Family on September 21 for a virtual commemoration marking 10 years since the execution of Troy Davis. The online gathering will be an opportunity to honor Troy’s life, reflect on the movement he helped build, and re-energize ourselves to (in Troy’s final words) “continue to fight this fight.”
The virtual commemoration will include a welcome from Kimberly Davis (Troy’s sister), a sneak peek of the I Am Troy Davis documentary film currently in production, as well as a discussion featuring De’Jaun Davis-Correia, Thenjiwe McHarris, Marc Lamont Hill, Delia Perez Meyer, and Kalonji Jama Changa. The discussion will be moderated by Amy Goodman, host and executive producer of Democracy Now!
