As the world continues to cope from the enduring COVID-19 pandemic, immigrants and asylum-seekers locked up by ICE have been left behind to face these turbulent times alone and in dangerous conditions. Rapid spread in the detention facilities is already occurring, and people have tragically died. Even if released from detention, immigrants and asylum-seekers are often left with little to no resources as they transition and settle into their new homes and communities during these difficult times.
This is where activists like you can come in.
As part of the ICE detention focus of the RightsNow! campaign, Community Sponsorship is a powerful action you can take to be in direct solidarity with immigrants and asylum-seekers, and to demonstrate your support and advocate for the release of individuals and families in detention.
Amnesty will be hosting a webinar on Monday, July 27 at 8 pm EST/5 pm PST to talk about how you can take action through Community Sponsorship. Please join us to learn more about Community Sponsorship and the RightsNow! campaign focus to get people freed from ICE detention. You’ll also hear from one of Amnesty’s partner organizations: Basel Mousslly, Program Manager for Migrant Services at Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), about their Post Release and Empowerment Program for people released from detention, and more.
