Angie Hougas’ formative, pre high school years were in Milwaukee, WI, during the turbulent 1960’s.  Those years were the impetus of her lifelong activism and involvement in civil and social justice, as well as human rights.

Since Angie became a local group member of Amnesty International, she has gone on to hold many volunteer leadership positions.  Those positions include, local group leader, statewide coordinator, steering committee member, member of task forces, International Council Meeting (ICM) Delegate, and former and current Board of Directors member.

Angie is the founder of Rhythm N’ Rights (RNR), a 25-year old member led and run initiative.  RNR reaches out to the music world to have an Amnesty presence at musical events.  It is one of the many ways Angie translates leadership information to the on-the-ground members and activists.

Her job experiences run the spectrum from janitor, retail clerk, legal assistant, Pilates instructor, and lobbyist. She also has over 20 years experience in the field of improving and stress testing systems for quality as a Quality Assurance Auditor.  She is currently employed at DeWitt Law Firm in Madison, WI.

Angie’s hobbies are photography, hiking, traveling, reading and writing poetry.  She also spends time making her backyard bumble bee, butterfly, bird, and critter friendly.  She is a member of the national and her local Audubon Society and a weekly volunteer at her local Humane Society.

Angie supports her family heritage with visits and interests in George Washington’s Mt Vernon, and as a member of the Chief Justice John Marshall Foundation.
