WE FIGHT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS ON CAPITOL HILL, THE WHITE HOUSE, AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

Our Government Relations (GR) team educates, advises, and lobbies U.S. policymakers on human rights issues in the United States and around the world. We work to advance a human rights-first approach in U.S. policy and practice. Leveraging Amnesty’s research and grassroots power, we create and implement advocacy strategies to push for U.S. government (USG) policies and practices to help stop or to stop enabling human rights violations by governments and other actors. We also seek to ensure the U.S. is not violating human rights abroad and work to end any direct or indirect USG support that facilitates violations by non-USG actors.

Our team also works in partnership and in coalition with other organizations and directly with human rights defenders, grassroots organizations or individuals and communities impacted by human rights abuses, including helping them navigate complex advocacy and policy environments to help amplify their calls for justice.

The GR team holds deep expertise in a broad range of human rights issues and regional human rights conditions. We also respond quickly to crises that may emerge in a region or due to rapidly evolving technology.
