The Laranjeira Ñhanderu community can now stay on their ancestral lands, after a court decision suspended an eviction order until the necessary anthropological studies have been carried out to verify their claims. FUNAI and Federal Prosecutors had appealed against the order to evict the Laranjeira Ñhanderu community: the appeal was upheld on 23 March, by the Third Regional Federal court in São Paulo. The court's decision suspended the eviction order while the anthropological study is being carried out. In the previous hearing, on 6 February, the eviction order had been suspended temporarily, but now the Laranjeira Ñhanderu community has the right to remain on the Santo Antônio de Nova Esperança farm until the anthropological study is completed.
