Good News! Human Rights Defenders Given Protection

Rosario Huayanca Zapata and Father José Manuel Miranda Azpiroz of the Human Rights Committee (Comité de Derechos Humanos, CODEH) in the Ica region of Peru, who received death threats on 4 and 8 October, have reported that there have been no further security incidents or threats against them since October.

Rosario Huayanca Zapata now receives 24-hour police protection, after police first refused to do so. The level of protection has been agreed with her. Other members of the Human Rights Committee, including Father José Manuel Miranda, have also agreed some protection measures with the police.
