Before he took the stage of SNL with the rest of Imagine Dragons and Kendrick Lamar, Dan Reynolds sat down to listen to a message recorded halfway around the world by two activists he had never met.
“Good luck Imagine Dragons – yes, from Dublin – See you Wednesday in New York – Goodbye!”
The message was from Masha Alekhina and Nadya Tolokonnikova, two recently released members of Pussy Riot.
The clip came to him via Amnesty representatives who met with Nadya and Masha as part of their international journey to promote human rights.
Touched by the message, Dan recorded one of his own:
“Hey Nadya and Masha, this is Dan from Imagine Dragons. Just wanted to say we’re really excited to see you guys. We’re stoked about the Amnesty concert and we hope you travel here safely and we’ll see you soon.”
What’s bringing these two activists together with a Grammy award winning rock band? Amnesty International’s Bringing Human Rights Home Concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on February 5.

While Nadya and Masha were in Dublin, they also sent a message to The Fray. A couple days later, the band replied back:
“Hello Pussy Riot, this is The Fray. We are excited to see you in Brooklyn for the Amnesty show! Thanks for the message you sent us. Nadya and Masha, we’ll see you soon!”
Both the musicians and Pussy Riot are looking forward to seeing each other. We’re excited too because on Wednesday, Imagine Dragons, The Flaming Lips, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Tegan and Sara, The Fray, Cold War Kids, Colbie Caillat and Cake will all be under the same roof, taking a stand for human rights.
Blondie, Yoko Ono and Bob Geldof will also perform. Legacy artists Sting and Peter Gabriel will join via video. Susan Sarandon will host and Madonna will introduce the crowd to Nadya and Masha.
