Today marks twelve years since the September 11 attacks in the United States of America. The attacks constitute a crime against humanity. All victims have the right to justice and adequate, effective and prompt reparation for harm suffered. Full and effective reparation includes restitution, compensation, rehabilitation, satisfaction and guarantees of non-repetition.
All those responsible for the attacks should be brought to justice through fair criminal trials without recourse to the death penalty, as should anyone responsible for planning further such attacks. Human rights violations committed by the U.S. government in the name of national security must end.
Amnesty International is a Nobel Peace Prize-winning grassroots activist organization with more than 3 million supporters, activists and volunteers in more than 150 countries campaigning for human rights worldwide. The organization investigates and exposes abuses, educates and mobilizes the public, and works to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied.
