WASHINGTON – Following President Donald Trump’s signing of a new directive banning future transgender individuals serving in the U.S. military, Tarah Demant, Amnesty International USA’s director of Gender, Sexuality, and Identity program issued the following statement:
“This directive continues President’s Trump cruel pattern of creating policy based on bigotry and hate. From stripping protections from transgender students to today’s announcement, the Trump administration has made clear it has an agenda of discrimination. Not only will today’s directive violate the human rights of thousands of Americans, it also sends a dangerous message to the rest of the world.”
