As President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” moves through the Senate, Amy Fischer, Amnesty International USA’s Director of Refugee and Migrant Rights, said:

“The Senate has the opportunity to stop this bill, which is a direct attack on human rights and the dignity of millions of people. This ludicrous bill proposes to supercharge President Trump’s cruel mass deportation machine while cutting life-saving federal programs like Medicaid and food assistance.

“Protecting human rights and investing in safe, vibrant, and healthy communities is what Congress must prioritize. Handing over $150 billion to continue tearing parents from their children, stoking fear in immigrant communities, shutting down people seeking safety, expanding detention centers and building more border walls is an absurd – and cruel – way to spend taxpayer dollars. As ICE raids and the militarized response to protests intensify across the country, the last thing we need is for Congress to send a blank check to the Trump administration to further his immoral agenda.

“The Senate must reject this cruel, destructive and anti-rights bill and instead invest in humane, sustainable solutions rooted in human rights.”
