(New York) – Amnesty International said today’s Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act is a step in the right direction to improve access to health care – a universal human right that for far too long has been neglected in the United States.
The human rights organization said: “It’s simply wrong that in a country in which billions of dollars are spent each year on health care, many millions of people still can’t access it. Today’s Supreme Court ruling will help to ensure that more people can get the care they need, but the U.S. government needs to do much more to reform the country’s healthcare system so that quality care is accessible for all.”
Amnesty International is a Nobel Peace Prize-winning grassroots activist organization with more than 3 million supporters, activists and volunteers in more than 150 countries campaigning for human rights worldwide. The organization investigates and exposes abuses, educates and mobilizes the public, and works to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied.
