In response to President Trump’s proposed federal budget, Amnesty International USA’s national director of advocacy and government affairs, Joanne Lin, released the following statement:
“This proposed budget will have grave consequences around the world, threatening the human rights of millions of people.
“It defies all logic and humanity to ask Congress to ramp up the attacks on asylum-seekers by expanding the detention system and funding a wall on the southern border. Dramatically increasing military spending while further cutting already-inadequate foreign assistance will compound the suffering of those who have already been hurt by Trump’s policies, including asylum-seekers and refugees. Congress must not approve this shameful budget.”
