New Honduras Agreement Could Be Deadly

September 25, 2019

Responding to reports of a cooperative agreement between the United States and Honduras, which would potentially force certain asylum-seekers to request asylum there, Charanya Krishnaswami, the advocacy director for the Americas at Amnesty International USA, said:

“This is yet another move in a string of agreements that continue to make a grotesque mockery of the right to asylum. We will say it again and again: people cannot be forced to seek safety in countries where they will not be safe.

“Instead of offering protection to people fleeing these conditions, the United States is instead pursuing a disastrous plan that could carry deadly consequences.”
