The following is a statement from Margaret Huang, executive director of Amnesty International USA, responding to the decision by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy to grant the Trump administration’s request to temporarily reinstate a portion of the ban on refugees:
“Justice Kennedy’s decision allowing the administration to continue to slam the door on those who have already been thoroughly vetted by multiple law enforcement and intelligence agencies, and who have long-standing relationships with resettlement organizations, is nonsensical and heartless. This ban is discriminatory at its core and should never have been implemented. Allowing any part of this ban to continue not only compromises our commitment to human rights as a country, but leaves people in grave danger.”
