Congress Must Reject Trump’s Insistence on Writing Bigotry into Policy

February 28, 2017

Following President Trump’s remarks before a joint session of Congress this evening, Amnesty International USA executive director Margaret Huang issued the following statement:

“President Trump’s remarks tonight show that he is oblivious to public outrage against his bigoted Muslim ban. Congress must block his anticipated new executive order. The hateful repercussions of this policy are being felt by Muslims and those perceived as Muslims across the country — and around the world. We cannot allow the U.S. to set such a chilling agenda for other leaders to follow, and we cannot wait for the courts. Congress must act now.”
