Today, U.S. District Judge James Brady called for the unconditional release of the last imprisoned member of the Angola 3, Albert Woodfox. The ruling would bring an end to more than four decades for Woodfox in solitary confinement. In response to Judge Brady’s monumental ruling, Amnesty International USA senior campaigner Jasmine Heiss issued the following statement:
"After four decades in solitary confinement, Judge Brady's decision to grant Albert Woodfox’s unconditional release marks a momentous step toward justice. Woodfox has spent 43 years trapped in a legal process riddled with flaws. The only humane action that the Louisiana authorities can take now is to ensure his immediate release."
