In response to the US vote against a UN resolution presented at a General Assembly Emergency Special Session on the ongoing crisis in Gaza and demanding a ceasefire, Paul O’Brien, Executive Director of Amnesty International USA made the following statement:

“Once again, the U.S. has turned its back to civilians in Gaza and voted against a UN resolution addressing the extremely dire humanitarian situation there. While we welcome President Biden’s increasing concern with the Israeli military’s indiscriminate bombings in Gaza, his words must be followed by action. We urge President Biden, Secretary Blinken, and U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield to recognize the need for an immediate ceasefire and a stop to the transfer and sale of arms to the government of Israel given the existing context.”
