(Washington, D.C.) — In response to President Obama’s remarks on the conflict in Syria this evening, Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) is calling for expanded efforts to address the growing humanitarian crisis that 1) hold all those responsible for war crimes and other crimes against humanity accountable and 2) provide much needed funding and support for millions of refugees and displaced Syrians.
"Two years too late, the international community has finally begun to focus on the crisis in Syria,” said Frank Jannuzi, Amnesty International USA Deputy Executive Director. “As Amnesty International urged as recently as this past weekend, the United States, Russia, and other members of the UN Security Council must now get 'unstuck' and translate this sense of urgency into action that not only brings Syria into compliance with global norms against the possession or use of chemical weapons, but also addresses the country’s worsening humanitarian crisis."
