Following the Supreme Court’s ruling granting a new sentencing hearing to Duane Buck based on evidence of racial bias in his trial, Amnesty International USA’s death penalty campaigner James Clark issued the following statement:
“Duane Buck’s case is a prime example of the virulent racial animus that infects the death penalty in the United States. This must never be allowed to happen again. The death penalty is irrevocably broken and it is time to end this cruel and inhuman exercise once and for all."
