(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – In response to President Obama’s announcement today about the “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative, Amnesty International USA Executive Director Steven W. Hawkins commended the president’s efforts saying:
“The President is right to address the inequality and discrimination that disproportionately impact young men of color in this country, jeopardizing their rights to education, to equal justice, to secure a decent standard of living, and to participate in the decisions that affect their lives, among a host of other areas. These are some of the most critical human rights challenges we face at home. Amnesty International USA commends the President’s efforts to empower young men of color.”
Amnesty International USA’s annual human rights conference will take place in Chicago April 4-6 and address many of these issues.
