Nery Eduardo Chavez is the Coordinator for AIUSA’s Strategy & Innovation and the Movement Building & Member Engagement departments, taking on projects from its various units and supporting both Chief Officers, Nadia Daar & Bethany Criss.
At Amnesty International, Nery has supported the Gender, Sexuality, and Identity work through abortion rights & reproductive justice advocacy, policy analysis, organizing, and research with both the U.S. and the Americas Regional Office (Mexico City). Nery is currently supporting the U.S. research team’s report on the human rights impact of the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark Dobbs v. Jackson decision & co-leading the Americas Regional Office pro-abortion Spanish-language research and campaign efforts.
A first-generation Salvadoran-American, Nery speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese fluently, can be found running and getting lost at Rock Creek Park, cooking for friends in his tiny kitchen, and watching horror films.
