Youth Leadership in Activism

Youth Leadership in Activism (YLA) is a volunteer leadership program at AIUSA encompassing four member leader roles: Peer Trainers, Student Activist Coordinators (SAC), Slack Community Managers, and Social Media Managers.

Through these roles, youth leaders provide AIUSA student groups and activists with peer-to-peer coaching, training, resource-sharing, and engagement opportunities, strengthening our collective ability to protect and defend human rights.

Each position requires a unique skill set and comes with distinct day-to-day responsibilities, so it is important to assess your interest in and qualifications for each role individually as well as your overall capacity to meet the time commitments of each role. We encourage applicants to consider the different roles you hold inside and outside of Amnesty and determine if you have time for, and interest in, multiple roles. In addition, as part of our work to ensure accessibility and diversity among AIUSA’s member leadership, it is important that leadership opportunities are distributed across AIUSA’s membership, rather than a few people holding multiple roles. Everyone selected for one of the roles in this application will be expected to attend an in-person training in the San Francisco Bay Area. All expenses are covered by AIUSA. If you are under age 18 at the time of the training, you will need permission from your parent or legal guardian to attend, and we encourage you to speak with them now about your availability for the dates below. If you are not available to attend in person, please explain; while this is a required component of the roles, limited exceptions will be considered. Note: This training is held in person and all expenses are covered by AIUSA. However, we will assess safety and public health measures as it gets closer, and will hold it virtually if necessary. Some components will be available virtually regardless.
