VOTING IS A HUMAN RIGHT!
But this right is being threatened.
The Trump administration is threatening the right to vote in the lead-up to the November midterm elections and putting the U.S. on a dangerous path. All eligible citizens should be able to participate in elections freely and without intimidation, discrimination, violence or the threat of violence.
Amnesty International works to expose abuses, demand accountability, and use the full force of our movement to stop authoritarian practices and defend human rights, including the right to vote. But we need your help.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Tell your mayor and governor: NO GUNS, NO ICE, NO MILITARY AT THE POLLS
We all have the right to vote in universal, secret and genuine elections.
As stated in Article 21 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:
- Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives.
- Everyone has the right of equal access to public service in his country.
- The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this will shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections, which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures.
Amnesty International takes no position for or against any political ideology, party or candidate. The organization’s sole purpose is the promotion and defense of freedom, equality, justice, dignity, and human rights worldwide.
It is because of our mission that we are raising the alarm in the United States.
