Defend the International Rule of Law

President Trump’s administration is creating a human rights emergency in the United States, but he is also accelerating attacks on the international system meant to protect everyone’s human rights, prevent harm to civilians in conflict, and hold officials accountable.

The Trump administration is retreating from critical global human rights agreements and bodies that the U.S. helped establish, abruptly cutting foreign assistance, engaging in extrajudicial killings, fueling human rights violations by its allies, gutting measures meant to protect civilians from harm, and demonstrating a disregard for human rights and global norms. These actions on the international stage are a wrecking ball to systems for accountability and justice already under immense strain.

Defending the international rule of law and the people it protects is essential to the rights and lives of people around the world.

WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW

The Trump administration’s defiance of the rule of law and evasion of accountability have emboldened other leaders to roll back rights and silence dissent—accelerating attacks on people who defend human rights and systems designed to protect rights.

We must do everything in our power to ensure human rights are protected and hold leaders accountable through exposure and collective action.
