Biography: Abdullah was born and raised in the middle east, where human rights violations are day-to-day realities. Those lived and witnessed experiences have amplified his passion and commitment to defending human rights. He has been a member of AIUSA since 2012. A native of Syria, Abdullah collaborated with Amnesty International on documenting human right violations in Syria, documenting systemic targeting and killing of physicians and journalists in the conflict zones, and conducting training workshops for Syrian activists.
Determined to act on his commitment to human rights, Abdullah became a founding member of several grassroots civil society organizations that blossomed in Syria during the popular uprise of 2011. He received the Homo Homini award for human rights activism on behalf of Doctors Coordinates of Damascus, which pioneered organized medical relief inside the conflict areas in Syria. Abdullah has gained vast organizational and leadership skills thorough his activism. He acted as a former treasurer and board member of the Syrian Nonviolence Movement (SNVM), a French NGO that works on promoting social and political change in Syria through peaceful means. He is also a former chairman and board member of the Syrian Expatriates Organization (SEO), a US based NGO that works on promoting democratic change in Syria through capacity building of local governance bodies.
