Detained Student Activist Released!
Human rights defender Malek Adly has been released on 28 August after he spent 115 days in detention. The court did not set bail as a condition of his release but required him to specify a place of residence as he faces an ongoing criminal investigation.
Indonesian police suspended their investigation into a defamation complaint against human rights activist Haris Azhar. An investigation is currently underway into his allegations linking security and law enforcement officials to drug-trafficking.
Dmytro Koroliov was released on 2 August after spending one year in secret detention in the Security Service of Ukraine compound in Kharkiv, northeast Ukraine. At least 12 others were also released from secret detention between 25 July and 2 August.
Dr Taher Mokhtar and two other activists were released from detention on 11 August. A Cairo court had ordered their release on bail nine days earlier on 3 August. They spent seven months in detention facing baseless charges.
