We Did It! A Victory for VAWA
Amnesty International welcomed the transfer of two detainees out of Guantanamo. Amnesty International has long called for them, and all other Guantanamo detainees, to either be charged and fairly tried or released.
Khader Adnan, a Palestinian detainee who went on a hunger strike for 66 months, was finally released on 17 April after spending four months in detention without charge or trial in central Israel.
George Ramzi Nakhla, a member of the "6 April Youth" protest movement, was released on 25 March 2012 after being detained and beaten by Egyptian security forces.
Human rights defender Daniel Deuzoumbe Passalet was released without charge on 30 December 2011. He returned to N'Djamena, the capital of Chad, still weak from his hunger-strike.
