Women’s rights activist Souad al-Shammari was released on 29 January after three months of detention without charge. The conditions of her release and current legal status are unclear.
Aparna Marandi and her son were released on bail on May 6, 2013. She had been in jail since December 8, 2012, accused of being involved in a Maoist arson attack on a mining site in India's Jharkhand state. Amnesty International and other human rights organizations believe that she was falsely accused and arrested for her non-violent human rights activism.
