Nigerian Torture Survivor Freed!
More than 600 people forcibly evicted from their homes in Sabbangali, N’Djamena, the capital of Chad, have been offered compensation and allocated plots of land to rebuild their houses in another area of N’Djamena.
The planned demolition of the Railway Quarter in Port Harcourt was halted by the state authorities after pressure from the community, local NGOs and Amnesty International.
Following protests by human rights organizations and foreign embassies the planned forced eviction of Roma from Baia Mare, Romania on 5 September appears to have been put on hold.
"The planned forced evictions in the Arco Iris neighborhood of Lubango, Angola, which were scheduled for 25 August, did not take place. Residents believe the work of Amnesty International and the local NGO Association Building Communities (Associação Construindo Comunidades - ACC) contributed to stopping the forced eviction.
