Delivery of Petition Signatures Mon. Oct. 21 and Press Conference on Angola 3 in Baton Rouge

(BATON ROUGE, La.) – Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) activists will gather in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Monday, Oct. 21 to hold a press conference on the steps of the state capitol and deliver a petition with more than 20,000 signatures calling for the immediate release of Albert Woodfox, the last remaining member of the Angola 3 in solitary confinement.

 

The event will feature a variety of speakers and representatives will read statements by Robert King, the first freed member of the Angola 3; Michael Mable, Albert Woodfox’s brother and Jasmine Heiss, Campaigner for Amnesty International USA.

Wallace and Woodfox were convicted of the murder of a prison guard in 1972, though no physical evidence tied them to the crime scene and their conviction was based on questionable testimony. They both endured over 40 years in solitary confinement. Wallace was released on Oct. 2nd and died only 3 days later. Albert Woodfox – the last remaining imprisoned member of the Angola 3 – is still in solitary.
