“We join the nation in expressing our horror at the killing of three young Muslim people in North Carolina,” said Steven W. Hawkins, executive director of Amnesty International USA.

“Particularly in light of the alarming rise in anti-Muslim hate and rhetoric, it is vital that the Justice Department unequivocally condemn hate crimes. While we continue to monitor the story and the circumstances surrounding this case in particular, we urge the DOJ to investigate any credible evidence that this tragedy might constitute a hate crime, and continue to call for precautionary policies regarding access to firearms.”
