Two important pieces of legislation are working their way through Congress, and support is growing to block arms sales to Israel.
This week, two Joint Resolutions of Disapproval (JRD) are expected to come up for a vote in the Senate. These resolutions (S.J.Res. 32 and S.J.Res. 138) seek to block the sale of 1,000-pound bombs and bulldozers to Israel. Senators must vote YES to prevent U.S.-provided arms and equipment from being used by Israel in violation of international law across the Middle East.
Numerous violations of international law
Amnesty International has documented a clear and ongoing pattern by Israeli forces committing serious violations of international law, including war crimes, genocide, and apartheid. This includes evidence that Israeli forces have repeatedly carried out war crimes in Lebanon and Iran and the crime of genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip. Amnesty has also been able to identify the use of U.S. origin weapons, including a 1,000 pound bomb, in the occupied Gaza Strip.
Israeli forces have used bulldozers across the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Lebanon, and Syria to displace civilians and prevent their return by leveling homes, agricultural land, and entire neighborhoods as well as to destroy roads and other essential civilian infrastructure.
All Senators must take urgent action to ensure that the U.S. immediately suspends the supply, sale, or transfer to Israel of all weapons, munitions, and other military and security equipment, including the provision of training and other military and security assistance.
Supporting measures such as the Joint Resolutions of Disapproval is essential to stopping genocide and ensuring that the U.S. is not providing arms and equipment to Israel that can be used to carry out war crimes and genocide.

- Feel free to use the following script:
- Hello, my name is (name) and I live in (state). I’m a member of Amnesty International, and I’m calling to urge Senator (name) to VOTE YES on S.J. Res 138 and S.J. Res 32, two Joint Resolutions of Disapproval introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders that would block the sale of specific weapons and equipment to Israel and could help protect civilians. By continuing to provide arms and other military support to Israel, the U.S. government risks complicity in serious violations of international law, including genocide.

- S.J. Res 138 covers a recently announced sale of 1000-pound bombs as Israeli forces continue to carry out a clear pattern of unlawful attacks that target civilians and civilian objects. S.J. Res 32 relates to the transfer of bulldozers that are being used to unlawfully destroy civilian property and land. Again, please VOTE YES on both of these Joint Resolutions of Disapproval. Thank you.
