Urgent Action: Lawyer Detained for “Inciting Subversion” (China: UA 19.18)


Beijing human rights lawyer Yu Wensheng is currently being held under “residential surveillance in a designated location” on suspicion of “inciting subversion of state power”. Held incommunicado and denied all access to a lawyer and his family, he is at risk of torture and other ill-treatment.

Beijing human rights lawyer Yu Wensheng is currently being held under “residential surveillance in a designated location” on suspicion of “inciting subversion of state power”. Held incommunicado and denied all access to a lawyer and his family, he is at risk of torture and other ill-treatment.

1) TAKE ACTION
Write a letter, send an email, call, fax or tweet:

  • Immediately and unconditionally release Yu Wensheng as he has been detained solely for peacefully exercising his human right to freedom of expression;
  • Ensure that Yu Wensheng has access to a lawyer of his choice and his family;
  • Ensure that Yu Wensheng is not subjected to torture or other ill-treatment.
