Detained Student Activist Released!
Kostyantyn Beskorovaynyi returned home on 25 February, having spent 15 months in secret detention. In July, Ukraine’s Chief Military Prosecutor promised an effective investigation into Kostyantyn Beskorovaynyi’s allegations of enforced disappearance and torture by members of the Security Service of Ukraine. Kostyantyn Beskorovaynyi has since given media interviews about his ordeal.
The first two Syrian refugees that became at risk of being forcibly returned to Turkey under the illegal EU-Turkey deal have now been released from detention. In both cases a court has also ordered the suspension of their deportation until other court hearings take place at the end of September.
Lawyer Ren Quanniu, who was criminally detained on suspicion of "picking quarrels and provoking trouble", has been released on bail. Please stop sending appeals at this time.
Vano Kiboko, a former Member of Parliament who had been in detention since December 2014, was released from prison on 5 May after completing his sentence.
