Prisoner of conscience Mohammed al-Bajadi is being retried on the same charges for which he was sentenced to a four-year prison term in 2012. This retrial may well result in a harsher sentence.
He is a human rights defender. If convicted he could be sentenced to up to two years’ imprisonment and a heavy fine. If imprisoned, he would be considered a prisoner of conscience.
Mikhlif al-Shammari has been sentenced to two years in prison and 200 lashes. If imprisoned, Amnesty International will consider him a prisoner of conscience.
The fatal incident follows the recent murder of another campesino leader in September. The safety of his family and other leaders may be at risk.
