Zainab Al-Khawaja was sentenced on 9 December to one year and four months’ imprisonment for “insulting a public servant” and “destroying government property”.
Following the conviction of her rapist, the Afghan authorities have committed to ensuring her protection. The 10-year-old girl is receiving medical and psychological attention.
She was released on 19 November after more than a month in detention for ripping up a picture of the King in court. The verdict in this case is expected on 4 December.
