Putin, We Will Not Be Silent: Pussy Riot Rally in Washington, DC

On the eve of the one year anniversary of Pussy Riot's iconic performance at Christ the Savior Cathedral, activists and artists will gather outside the Russian Embassy in Washington, DC.

WHEN
February 20, 4:30-6:30PM

WHERE
Embassy of the Russian Federation, Washington DC
2650 Wisconsin Ave NW, (Wisconsin and Fulton)
Washington, DC 20007

WHY?
In February 2012, members of Pussy Riot performed mere seconds of a protest song in Moscow’s main Orthodox cathedral that was critical of authorities in Russia. Two women - Nadezhda "Nadya" Tolokonnikova and Maria "Masha" Alekhina – were found guilty of “hooliganism” and are serving sentences in notoriously brutal penal colonies. while the third faces restrictions on her freedom of movement and speech. Pussy Riot's videos and materials have been scrubbed from the Russian Internet, and crackdowns on free expression and human rights continue all over the country.

But Russian activists and human rights defenders will not be silenced, and neither will we! Join us as we commemorate Pussy Riot's protest by calling for their immediate and unconditional release, and demanding that Putin respect free expression and human rights.
