Special Focus Case

Fathi el-Jahmi
LYBIA
Political activist Fathi el-Jahmi has been detained without trial since March 2004, when he was arrested after he criticized Libya's leader, Colonel Mu'ammar al-Gaddafi, and called for political reform in international media interviews. Amnesty International considers Fathi el-Jahmi to be a prisoner of conscience, detained solely for the peaceful expression of his political views, and is calling for his immediate and unconditional release.

Northeast Regional Group Websites
In communities across the nation, AIUSA Local Groups meet regularly - usually once a month - to write letters and organize actions on behalf of prisoners and other victims of human rights abuse. They also work on special campaigns designed to end abuse throughout the world. Local groups are open to anyone with a concern for human rights and a desire to act on that concern. Please feel free to contact the Northeast Office if you do not see a local group listed in your area.
