Come join us in Denver, Colorado for our annual human rights conference from Friday, March 30 to Sunday, April 1! We are really excited to host this year's conference in the Mile High City! Amidst the backdrop of the beautiful Rocky Mountains, Amnesty International supporters and human rights activists from across the country will unite and immerse themselves in the crucial human rights issues of the day. The theme of this year's human rights conference is Rise up for Rights and will be reflected throughout our three-day conference as we focus on the power of rising up and facing social injustices, both individually and collectively, to inspire change around the world.
The conference begins on Friday, March 30 at the Denver Marriott City Center. Be sure to arrive by 5:00pm to Rise up for Rights and take part in the AIUSA Rally! AIUSA will then kick off this amazing weekend with Opening Ceremonies at 7:00pm in the presence of leading human rights leaders from around the world. Take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about AIUSA and join the Resolution Committee as it discusses the resolution process over cheesecake Friday night. Saturday begins with an inspirational keynote address, followed by an engaging Movement Building plenary, Rising Up: Demanding our rights, claiming our future!, featuring prominent human rights campaign leaders, including one of the organizers of the Occupy Movement, who will discuss how you can Rise Up and become a key player in the international human rights movement. Later, you can attend a variety of program sessions and learn more about AIUSA's campaigns, as notable members of the human rights community come together to deliver important messages. You are sure to leave these sessions empowered to take action!
These sessions include Security with Human Right's How to Close Guantanamo and the Death Penalty Abolition session From Troy Davis to Reggie Clemons to Abolition. To give you a taste, a former Guantanamo prosecutor and the head of the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty will be among the speakers. Take advantage of the many opportunities to socialize and network with fellow human rights activists throughout the conference by going to events like the Saturday Night Social. Members can also gather and share their opinions during the Member Voting Plenary on Sunday, April 1. Also featured Sunday is the Death Penalty Abolition plenary, We Ended the Death Penalty Once in the US - How will we end it for good? By the close of the conference on Sunday, you will leave empowered and ready to Rise up for Rights!
Join hundreds of like-minded human rights activists for what promises to be an amazing weekend in Denver!
Amnesty International USA would like to give a big shout out to all of the Digital Design students at the University of Colorado Denver! They used their valuable time to create wonderful designs for this year's Annual General Meeting! While all of the students did incredible work, two of the designs were chosen to become an integral part of AGM 2012's branding campaign. Ashley Feeney's design will be the main image for the campaign, while Talena Hayward's work will be featured on AGM merchandise. However, all of the signs, programs, and animations that you will see throughout the conference are the result of collaborative work undertaken by all of the talented Digital Design students. A special thanks is also due to photographer Donald Ungerman for his valuable contributions. We are very grateful for all their hard work and effort! We are sure that you will love the designs as much as we do at this year's AGM!
