A Conversation About the Death Penalty in the United States

Speakers:

Lawyer Johnson, the last man to be sentenced to die in Massachusetts, before the death penalty was outlawed in the Commonwealth in 1974. Lawyer was released after 10 years in prison when new evidence showed that someone else had committed the crime for which he had been convicted.

Terry Rockefeller of 9/11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows and a member of the Board of Amnesty USA. Terry will speak about her experience as a 9/11 family member. She will focus her talk on the death penalty trial of Zacarias Moussaoui, where she and other 9/11 family members had been called to present victims' impact statements.


James P. Rooney, President of Massachusetts Citizens Against the Death Penalty, will open the discussion with background information about capital punishment in the U.S. and in Massachusetts.


Presentations from the panelists will be followed by discussion and Q&A.
