(UA 219/11) Great News! UN Worker Released In Sudan

Idris Yousef Abdelrahman went missing in Nyala, South Darfur, after being summoned for a meeting by the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) on 27 April. His employers, UNAMID, were not informed of his whereabouts until 10 May, when they learned that the NISS had detained him. On 12 July he was charged with 'undermining the constitutional system' and 'waging war against the state', both of which could have resulted in a sentence of capital punishment. He was at last released on 20 July due to lack of evidence against him and is currently undergoing a medical check-up in Nyala.

Thank you to all the countless Amnesty members who sent appeals on his behalf!
